Program Description

This program is designed to give students experience in Commercial Truck Driver while providing the student with the basic knowledge and skills to prepare for an entry level position in the transportation industry and to take a Mississippi Commercial Driving License (CDL) examination for class A, B, or C commercial drivers.

The Commercial Truck Driver program consists of three courses, taken sequentially. Upon completion of all program requirements, the credential (Certificate in Commercial Truck Driver/CDL Preparation) will be awarded by SEC Training Centers under its school seal.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

    • List safety precautions required in commercial driving
    • Pass the General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Combination Vehicle test
    • Define three types of vehicle inspections and requirements for each one
    • Perform a proper pre-trip inspection on a combination vehicle
    • Double clutch a heavy vehicle properly
    • Shift a heavy truck up and down through all gears
    • Perform a “button hook” method right turn properly
    • Make left turns properly
    • Drive a tractor-trailer on rural roads, in urban traffic, and freeway settings
    • Couple and uncouple a tractor-trailer rig safely
    • Adjust trailer air brakes
    • Demonstrate proper mountain driving techniques including braking and pulling off
    • Demonstrate skid control and recovery
    • Safely approach and cross railroad tracks
    • Read and interpret a road atlas and plan trips
    • Fill out logbooks properly
    • Take an Inspection, Skills
